Never Use Acid on Marble

The most common — and most expensive — mistake in a fine home is using an acidic cleaner on marble or limestone. Lemon, vinegar, and most limescale removers will etch the surface, leaving a dull cloud that no amount of buffing recovers. Treat any calcareous stone with pH-neutral cleaners only, wipe up acidic spills such as wine and citrus immediately, and blot rather than rub.
